Privacy policy

Effective September 19th, 2026

Methodic is an Android app by Nathaniel Murray ("I", "me"). This page explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and how you can remove it. The short version: your routines and history stay on your phone, and the only copy that leaves it is the backup you choose to save to your own Google Drive. I don't run a server, I don't receive your data, and I don't show ads or use analytics.

What the app stores on your phone

Your routines, tasks, schedules and reminder settings.
Your completion history: which tasks you completed or skipped on which days, and how long routines took.
A permanent change log of edits and completions, so past days always show what was true then.
Your settings: name, theme, sounds, and profile picture.

This lives in the app's private storage on your phone. Other apps can't read it. It stays until you uninstall Methodic or clear its data in Android settings.

Google Drive backup (optional)

If you turn on Drive backup, Methodic asks for one permission: drive.file, which lets the app see and change only the files it created. It can't see or open anything else in your Drive.

What is saved: one file named methodic_backup.json in your own Drive. It contains your routines, tasks, completion history, change log, name, and app settings. It does not contain your profile picture, only the location of it on your phone.
Who can see it: you, through your Google account. I can't access your Drive or the file.
When it is used: the file is updated when your data changes, and downloaded when you restore on a new phone.
How to remove it: turn off Drive backup and sign out in Methodic's settings, then delete the file at drive.google.com. You can also remove Methodic's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Google Calendar (optional)

If you connect Google Calendar, Methodic asks for read-only access (calendar.readonly). It reads the events from the calendars you select and shows them next to your routines. Events are kept in a cache on your phone so they load quickly. They are not uploaded anywhere, not included in your Drive backup, and never changed. To stop, disconnect Calendar in Methodic's settings, or remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Methodic's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Other services the app contacts

Verse of the Day (optional). If you turn it on, the app asks YouVersion for the day's verse. Nothing about you or your routines is sent. YouVersion's own privacy policy applies to that request.
Cover photo search. When you search for a cover photo while creating a routine, the words you type are sent to Unsplash to find pictures. Unsplash's own privacy policy applies.

Permissions the app asks for

Notifications, exact alarms and full-screen alerts: to remind you at a routine's start time and to ring alarms.
Run at startup: so reminders are set up again after your phone restarts.
Display over other apps: only to show the small quick-task box on top of whatever app you're using. The app doesn't read what's on your screen.
Vibration and internet: for alarm feedback and the services listed above.

What I don't do

I don't sell or share your information.
I don't show ads or use advertising IDs.
I don't collect analytics or track how you use the app.
I don't receive your data at all, apart from anything you choose to email me.

Children

Methodic isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from them.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Methodic, or clearing its storage in Android settings, removes everything stored on your phone, including the change log. To remove the Drive copy, delete methodic_backup.json from your Drive as described above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
